Everything is finally starting to come together for Vicky. She is moving on from the tragic death of her parents four years ago. There is hope of a romantic relationship with handsome Deputy Sheriff Mitchell Slate and she is enjoying running the grand, old inn with her sister and her Aunt Ida.
But then, Vicky finds the murdered body of the inn’s gardener. The inn has a wedding booked for the weekend so her wacky Aunt Ida ropes her into investigating the murder. It is a race against the clock to solve the murder so the wedding can go ahead as planned. This puts Vicky and Aunt Ida right in the line of danger.
Will Vicky and Aunt Ida be able to stay safe and solve the murder in time? Will the relationship between Deputy Sheriff Mitchell and Vicky blossom or will the mean, by-the-book Sheriff McDonnell stand in their way?

This book was a very cute, quick, witty, and yes kind of predictable but it was great. I read for the enjoyment of the story not to check grammar and sentence structure that's not my job. I read other reviews and don't get how people can do that and still enjoy the book . This is about two sisters who own and run an inn with their Aunt Ida. When one of their quest check in with cash and only his first name red flags go up. While Vicky is walking in the garden looking for one of their employees she finds him murdered in among the roses. The story leads us along with Aunt Ida and Vicky as they look for clues to who the quest with the first name only is and who killed their employee. This is a quick read for a raining day and if you don't want to think about anything except loosing yourself in an easy read.Product details

Murdering the Roses Heavenly Highland Inn Cozy Mystery Book 1 edition by Cindy Bell Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Short but sweet. Good plot and drama with Aunt Ida providing comic relief. Some parts not too believable such as allowing a guest to check into a luxury hotel with cash and only a first name. Red flag!!!
Sorry to say this book was not good. The writing reminded me of the books I read as a child, very simplistic. It become so annoying that I couldn't even finish the book. There are too many well written books with good plots and interesting characters to waste any more time on this book!
This was a pleasant "cosy", easy to read with no effort required on the reader's part. i did find the character of Aunt Ida rather overdone. terrified of spiders, but more than willing to walk into mortal danger - I wonder. perhaps others would disagree. Also the constant snooping on the sisters and overdone "flirting" made this character most "unlovable" to me.
The Sheriff was a nice guy, but his boss, like Ida, was just too "over the top" to be believable.
My fourth star is for the older sister, Sarah, a busy working wife and mum to active boys. (and for the spider too)!
Murdering the Roses is a good start to hopefully a good series. Vicky and Sarah run the family inn, a popular get away to the elite. Aunt Ida lives with them since their parents had died. When the gardner was found dead in the garden of roses the mystery began. Much to the dismay of the Sheriff, Vicky and Aunt Ida are determined to help with the investigation, hoping that the mystery can be solved quickly so the wedding scheduled for the coming weekend can take place. Looking forward to next book.
There isn't enough room here to list all the things wrong with this book. Add in the fact that the writer knows nothing about the places where commas go, and you have a farce. Screaming and hysterical females are - happily - no longer used by most writers, but this writer clearly never got the message. Along with the question of why anyone would hide a key to a separately hidden box that could be forced open if necessary.
It is an interesting, clean, fun story but blink and it is over. I shouldn't complain because it was a free book. I wish it would have been expanded a little, but that was probably because it is part of a series. I don't mean by that comment that the book doesn't have an ending, it does. You don't have to buy book two to get the ending. I have enjoyed a sampling of the different series from this author and I do enjoy her work. If you like deep with lots of twists and turns this book probably isn't for you.
This book was an easy, fun read. It was a page turning murder mystery not in the suspense, thriller sense, but in the what kind of trouble are these crazy characters going to get into next?
Heroine Vicky is prepared to fire her lazy gardener when she finds him dead in the garden. The Inn has a wedding scheduled at the end of the week and it looks like the police won't get the case solved by then. So Vicky and her Aunt Ida set out to solve the murder. There are more twists and turns in the story than in a sidewinder in sand. There are rooms broken into and an attack on Vicky. There are people who aren't who they pretend to be. There's the tiniest bit of a maybe there will be a romance someday subplot. And ... it turns out there's a little bit of larceny in Aunt Ida.
This book is for anyone who isn't looking for a complicated mystery, but just a pleasant afternoon read.
